Trail Overview

Located near the Welcome Center at Carter Caves State Resort Park in Carter County, Horn Hollow Trail is a loop trail with a difficulty rating of Moderate. The hilly nature of this trail makes it more of a challenge for inexperienced hikers.

Trail Access

Hikers can park directly in front of the Welcome Center with overflow parking available directly across the road on busier days. After entering the visitor center parking lot you will see a stone staircase leading to the trail head.

Waypoints

Two caves are located along this trail, both of which require permits to enter. You can pick up a permit for free inside of the Welcome Center, but the park requires that you must have at least one other participant to enter the caves.

Cave Branch Creek

Cave Branch Creek runs alongside the portion of Horn Hollow Trail that is closest to the main road. You will cross a wooden bridge to continue along the trail, which is an ideal spot to view the stream and look for aquatic wildlife.

Horn Hollow Cave

Horn Hollow Cave is located on the back side of Horn Hollow Trail. You will see a sign located near the cave entrance. A permit which can be acquired at the Welcome Center is needed to enter and explore the cave.
